Scientific Board of TnUAD Approves Proposal for the Appointment of Assoc. Prof. Róbert Klement as Professor

On 22 June 2026, the Scientific Board of Alexander Dubček University of Trenčín (TnUAD) approved the proposal for the appointment of Assoc. Prof. Róbert Klement, PhD. as Professor in the field of Habilitation and Inauguration Proceedings in Inorganic Technology and Materials.

The decision followed a successful inauguration procedure, during which Assoc. Prof. Klement delivered his inaugural lecture entitled “Luminescent Glasses, Ceramics and Glass-Ceramics: From Fundamental Processes to Functional Materials”. In his presentation, he introduced the audience to the most significant results of his long-term research focused on advanced inorganic materials, particularly luminescent glasses, glass-ceramics, transparent ceramics, and materials for photonic and optical applications.

Assoc. Prof. Klement is a researcher at the FunGlass – Centre for Functional and Surface Functionalized Glass, Alexander Dubček University of Trenčín. Throughout his scientific career, he has established himself as an internationally recognised expert in the field of materials chemistry and advanced inorganic non-metallic materials. His research activities have resulted in numerous publications in leading international scientific journals, a strong citation record, successful participation in national and international research projects, and extensive collaboration with research institutions worldwide.

A significant part of his professional profile is devoted to education and the training of young researchers. Over the years, he has contributed to teaching in several chemistry and materials science disciplines, supervised doctoral students, and actively participated in the development of study programmes and research capacities at TnUAD.

The inauguration procedure was evaluated by an international committee composed of distinguished experts from Slovakia and the Czech Republic. The Inaugural Committee consisted of:

  • Prof. Ján Híveš, PhD. – Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology, Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, Slovakia
  • Prof. Ivo Kuřitka, PhD., PhD. – Centre of Polymer Systems, Tomas Bata University in Zlín, Czech Republic
  • Assoc. Prof. Pavol Hvizdoš, DrSc. – Institute of Materials Research, Slovak Academy of Sciences, Košice, Slovakia

The opponents were:

  • Prof. Marián Valko, DrSc. – Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology, Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, Slovakia
  • Prof. Vladimír Zeleňák, DrSc. – Faculty of Science, Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, Slovakia
  • Prof. Martin Trunec, Dr. – Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Brno University of Technology, Czech Republic

All three opponents recommended the appointment of Assoc. Prof. Klement as Professor, highlighting his outstanding scientific achievements, extensive publication record, international recognition, successful supervision of doctoral students, and significant contribution to the development of inorganic materials research.

Following the approval by the Scientific Board, the complete inauguration dossier will be submitted to the Ministry of Education, Research, Development and Youth of the Slovak Republic. Upon successful completion of the national appointment procedure, the appointment as Professor will be formally conferred by the President of the Slovak Republic.
