2025 Meeting of the SIBILA Project

On October 21, our institution hosted the 2nd meeting of the APVV Project (APVV-23-0097): “Multifunctional Mesoporous Silica-Based Composite Nanoparticles for Biomedical Applications” (SIBILA), coordinated by Prof. RNDr. Vladimír Zeleňák, DrSc., from P. J. Šafárik University in Košice (UPJŠ).
The project involves collaboration between the Faculty of Natural Sciences of UPJŠ in Košice, the Centre for Functional and Surface Functionalized Glass at Alexander Dubček University of Trenčín, and the University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Košice.

Dr. Zulema Vargas, FunGlass’ representative, and Dr. Martina Vitázková presented their most recent results on three-dimensional hybrid platforms containing mesoporous silica and SPIONs for drug delivery, as well as magnetic MBG nanocomposites for enhanced osteogenesis and angiogenesis. Dr. Martin Michálek, Head of the Biomaterials Department, and PhD students Daniela Jaramillo and Radhika Goyal also attended on behalf of FunGlass. Participants from the coordinating institution (UPJŠ) likewise presented their latest findings.

The meeting aimed to review the research work carried out in 2025 across all partner institutions, coordinate ongoing activities, establish logistics for sample exchanges and measurements, discuss financial aspects, and plan outreach activities. In addition, participants explored potential avenues for further collaboration and identified key research topics of mutual interest within the SIBILA project.
