Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini receives the Larry L. Hench Lifetime Achievement Award from the Bioceramics Division

We are delighted to share that Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini (University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany), member of the scientific board of FunGlass, will receive the Larry L. Hench Lifetime Achievement Award from the Bioceramics Division of the The American Ceramic Society this year. The Award is given to deserving individual(s) in recognition of lifetime dedication, vision, and accomplishments in advancing the field of Bioceramics, particularly towards innovation in the field and contribution to translation of technology towards clinical use. Professor Larry Hench was a true pioneer of innovation in ceramic and glass materials, he is particularly known for his invention of Bioglass, the first synthetic biomaterial discovered to form a bond with bone.

Prof. Boccaccini says: “This is a tremendous honor, especially meaningful because my collaboration with Prof. Larry Hench at Imperial College London nearly 20 years ago was a defining moment in my career. It inspired and influenced my research in biomaterials, with a focus on bioactive glasses. This award is, without a doubt, a recognition of the outstanding contributions of all members of my research group, past and present, both at Imperial and at the Institute of Biomaterials, University of Erlangen – Nuremberg,  as well as the many researchers worldwide with whom I have had the pleasure to collaborate over the years. Their dedication and hard work have made this achievement possible.“
