Upcycling Waste for Cleaner Water: FunGlass at the PTIM2025 Conference

From November 2–6, 2025, the 6th International Conference on Pollutant Toxic Ions and Molecules (PTIM2025) was held in Caparica, Portugal, gathering leading researchers working on metal and organic ions, inorganic pollutants, toxic molecule degradation in wastewater, health impacts of environmental contamination, and innovative strategies for the restoration and treatment of polluted environments.

Our PhD student Maria Waqar, actively contributed to the conference with both an oral and a poster presentation titled “Upcycling of Waste Glass into Porous Ceramics for the Degradation of Organic Pollutants in Wastewater.” Her research demonstrates the interdisciplinary, practical, and sustainability-oriented approach of FunGlass, illustrating how waste glass can be converted into advanced functional materials for environmental remediation.

FunGlass’s involvement in PTIM2025 underscores its strong commitment to sustainable research, circular-economy principles, and innovative technological solutions that support cleaner water resources and contribute to a healthier environment.
