Successful PhD Defence and Double Degree Achievement
We are pleased to announce that on January 23, 2026, our PhD student MSc. Hossein Ebrahim Hosseini successfully defended his doctoral thesis entitled “Mechanoluminescence and Persistent Luminescence of Bi-Doped Germanates.”

This achievement is especially significant as Hossein is the first co-tutelle PhD student at FunGlass, earning a double doctoral degree jointly awarded by Alexander Dubček University of Trenčín and Friedrich Schiller University Jena.
Hossein’s doctoral research at FunGlass was supervised by Assoc. Prof. Robert Klement . His work was evaluated by a panel of three distinguished reviewers:
-
Prof. Dr. Laeticia Petit, Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Tampere University, Finland
-
Prof. Dr. Andréa Simone Stucchi de Camargo, Otto Schott Institute of Materials Research, Friedrich Schiller University Jena, Germany
-
Prof. Dr. Lothar Wondraczek, Otto Schott Institute of Materials Research, Friedrich Schiller University Jena, Germany
Hossein began his doctoral studies at FunGlass in December 2020, where he was admitted to the FunGlass PhD programme to pursue a joint doctoral topic in cooperation with partner universities. In 2023, he completed a one-year research stay at the Otto Schott Institute of Materials Research, Friedrich Schiller University Jena, Germany. During this period, he conducted his dissertation research under the supervision of Prof. Lothar Wondraczek and Dr. JiangKun Cao, focusing on “Novel Phosphors for NIR Mechanoluminescence and Biomechanical Imaging.”
Prior to his doctoral studies, Hossein earned his MSc degree in Nanoscience and Nanoengineering from Sakarya University, Turkey, in February 2018. During the final year of his master’s programme, he participated in the Erasmus+ Programme, completing a research internship with the FiCMA-FiCNA group at Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV), Spain, in 2016.
We warmly congratulate Dr. Hossein Ebrahim Hosseini on successfully completing his doctoral studies and wish him every success in his future academic and professional career.
