Prof. Galusek Presents Advances in Cold Sintering of Glass
at ACA XIV
Prof. Dušan Galusek delivered a plenary lecture entitled “Cold Sintering of Glass” at the Advanced Ceramics and Applications XIV (ACA XIV) conference in Belgrade, Serbia, on 22 September 2026. His lecture was part of the Basic Ceramics and Sintering session.
Prof. Galusek presented recent advances in the cold sintering of glass, an innovative low-temperature processing technique that enables the densification of glass powders at temperatures below 350–400 °C. He highlighted successful applications to bioactive, optical, luminescent, and highly crystallization-prone glasses, demonstrating the potential of cold sintering as an energy-efficient alternative to conventional high-temperature processing.
The approach could open new opportunities for manufacturing advanced glass and glass-ceramic components while preserving functional properties that may be lost during conventional processing at higher temperatures.
The research presented in the lecture was supported by the Slovak Research and Development Agency (APVV) through project APVV-23-0424.
The ACA conference series organized by Serbian Ceramic Society brings together scientists, engineers, professors, PhD students, experts, and manufacturers working with advanced ceramics, glasses, and refractories. The annual meeting provides a platform for sharing research achievements, discussing new developments, and exploring opportunities for collaboration.
Advanced ceramics and related materials have applications across a wide range of fields, including electronics and information technologies, renewable energy, environmental protection, security, space technology, cultural heritage restoration, and prosthetics.
