Exploring New Frontiers in Inorganic Materials with Prof. Emanuel Ionescu

We were pleased to welcome Prof. Emanuel Ionescu from TU Wien – Institute of Chemical Technologies and Analytics, Vienna, Austria, to FunGlass.

Prof. Ionescu’s scientific expertise lies in the field of chemical technologies, with a particular focus on the development of inorganic and ceramic materials with tailored structures, properties, and applications. His research covers a broad range of topics, including materials for energy, environmental, and biomedical applications, with particular emphasis on polymer-derived ceramics, nanocomposites, materials for extreme conditions, as well as circular economy concepts, sustainability assessment, and the digitalization of value chains.

During his visit to FunGlass, Prof. Ionescu delivered a scientific lecture on 14 August, which was also available to participants online, entitled:

“Structural and Compositional Disorder as Design Tools for Next-Gen Inorganic Materials”

The lecture provided our researchers and students, both on-site and online, with an opportunity to gain insights into current approaches to the design of advanced inorganic materials and to discuss new scientific perspectives and potential areas for future collaboration.

Following the lecture, Prof. Ionescu took a tour of the FunGlass laboratories together with our Director, Prof. Dušan Galusek, and the managers of our individual laboratories. The visit provided an opportunity to introduce him to FunGlass research facilities, ongoing activities, and the expertise of our research teams.

We would like to thank Prof. Ionescu for his visit and for sharing his expertise with the FunGlass community. We look forward to further scientific exchange and collaboration.
