Highlights from FunGlass School 2025/2

On November 5–7, the traditional FunGlass School took place — this time in a slightly unconventional format. Instead of our usual off-site setting, the event was hosted in the AESKO premises, conveniently located near the University of Trenčín.

This year’s edition brought together around 90 participants, including researchers, students, and staff from the Glass Processing, Biomaterials, Glass Analytics and Coating Processes departments, who presented their latest projects and findings.

The full program is available HERE, and the Book of Abstracts will be published soon.

As part of the FunGlass School, a Glass Processing Webinar was held on November 5, bringing together partners from GlaCerHub and CLiCAM. The session featured a series of presentations showcasing innovative research and developments in glass science and processing technologies, further strengthening our collaborative network.

The event also featured a special lecture by Assoc. Prof. David Salamon, GlaCerHub Innovation Chair, titled “Protection of Intellectual Properties at FunGlass – Possible Strategies.”
His talk provided valuable insights into intellectual property management and strategies for safeguarding research outcomes within the FunGlass community.

FunGlass School traditions always include a shared activity to relax and connect outside the lab. This year, instead of our usual hike, we enjoyed a guided tour of Trenčín, led by a professional guide. Participants discovered not only the city’s ancient roots — including the famous Roman inscription from 179 AD — but also its modernist heritage, such as functionalist architecture from the 1930s.

The walk concluded with a visit to the Old Herold distillery, where science met tradition — exploring not only packaging design but also sampling the flavors of local Trenčín beverages.

FunGlass School remains a valuable platform for sharing research progress, discussing experimental results, and fostering collaboration. For students, it also serves as an excellent opportunity to practice presentation skills essential for their future scientific careers.

A heartfelt thank you to all participants for your enthusiasm and contributions.
We look forward to welcoming you again at the June edition of FunGlass School!
