First Prize at DTU Drug Delivery Summer School
We are pleased to share that our PhD student Amir Esfahani participated in the Drug Delivery Summer School, held at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) in Copenhagen from 17 to 28 August 2026.
The two-week summer school provided participants with an overview of nano- and microtechnologies in drug delivery, with a particular focus on delivery technologies for peptides and proteins, poorly soluble drugs, and vaccines. The programme combined lectures by academic and industry experts with practical, hands-on laboratory training.

During the first week, participants attended daily lectures covering a broad range of topics, including oral drug delivery, vaccines, brain drug delivery, biosensing, and career opportunities in academia and industry. Amir also presented a one-minute self-introduction pitch, introducing himself, his PhD research, and his work on MOF-based antibacterial materials.
The second week was dedicated to hands-on laboratory work. Working as part of a four-member laboratory team (Group 9), Amir and his colleagues developed and characterized a thermosensitive nasal hydrogel for sustained local delivery of ciprofloxacin, targeting chronic rhinosinusitis. The team subsequently prepared a scientific poster and a group pitch to present their results at the closing session.
We are especially proud that Group 9 won First Prize for the final presentation, recognizing the quality of their work and their ability to communicate the results of their laboratory project effectively.
The Drug Delivery Summer School provided Amir with valuable practical experience in drug-delivery technologies, an opportunity to work in an international multidisciplinary team, and a platform to further develop his scientific communication and presentation skills.
