FunGlass Hosts Renowned Expert in Polymer-Derived Ceramics

FunGlass recently had the honor of welcoming Prof. Günter Motz from Chair of Ceramic Materials Engineering, Faculty of Engineering Science, University of Bayreuth, Germany. Professor Motz is an internationally recognized expert in the field of polymer-derived ceramics (PDCs), with his research focusing on preceramic polymers, ceramic coatings, and advanced ceramic materials for high-temperature and functional applications.

During his visit on 20 and 21 April, Professor Motz delivered two engaging lectures addressing key aspects of PDC technologies:

  • Polymer Derived Ceramics (PDC) Technology – The Processing of Ceramics from Polymers
  • Coatings Based on Preceramic Polymers – Processing and Applications

The lectures attracted a distinguished audience, including representatives from the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry, Slovak Academy of Sciences. Among the attendees were Pavol Šajgalík, President of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (2015–2025), Peter Tatarko, Director of the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry SAS, and Miroslav Hnatko, Director of the Centre for Advanced Materials Application of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (CEMEA SAS).

Both lectures provided valuable insights into current developments in polymer-derived ceramics and sparked inspiring discussions within the FunGlass team and the broader scientific community.

We sincerely thank Professor Motz for his visit, his time, and for sharing his expertise with us.
