FunGlass was present at the first major scientific event in the field of ceramics and glass in 2023. The International Conference and Expo on Advanced Ceramics and Composites (ICACC) is organized regularly every year in January. This year it was organized again after 2 years break caused by the Covid19 pandemic at the Hilton Daytona Beach Resort and Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Florida on January 22 – 27, 2023.
FunGlass director, prof. Dušan Galusek delivered two invited lectures: one, related to the real-time monitoring of early-stage dissolution of bioactive glasses in simulated body fluids, and co-authored by D. Galusková, L. Buňová, and H. Kaňková in the frame of Session 5: Next Generation Bioceramics and Biocomposites, and the second at the satellite Symposium 5th Pacific Rim Engineered Ceramics Summit, where he presented an overview of the research activities in the field of ceramics in Slovakia and Czech Republic.
A FunGlass PhD student, Maryam Vakhshouri also delivered a lecture from the results of her PhD thesis titled Fabrication of Al2O3-Y2O3-ZrO2 composites using Spark Plasma Sintering (in Session- Mechanical Behavior and Performance of Ceramics & Composites). She was awarded two grants. In the framework of the ECerS International Ceramist Student Exchange Program, JECS Trust supported her to attend the Winter workshop at Hilton Daytona Beach Oceanfront Resort Hotel in Daytona Beach, Florida, USA on January 20 – 22, 2023. Another award by the American Ceramic Society (ACerS) Engineering Ceramics Division gave her an opportunity to participate in this ICACC2023.
In addition to that, the results of collaboration with FunGlass were presented in two lectures delivered by prof. Enrico Bernardo from the University of Padova.
