Salomé Saada from Ensil-Ensci, Limoges – Internship at FunGlass

We were pleased to host Salomé Saada, a dedicated and independent student from Ensil-ENSCI, University of Limoges (France), for a three-month internship at FunGlass from March to June. Currently in the first year of her three-year engineering cycle, Salomé is specializing in Materials and Surface Treatment.

At FunGlass, she joined the Department of Biomaterials under the guidance of Dr. Germán Clavijo and Dr. Martin Michálek, with academic supervision from Prof. Laurène Youssef at her home institution. Her internship focused on evaluating the feasibility of fabricating bismuth-doped 45S5 bioactive glass coatings using the Electrophoretic Deposition (EPD) technique.

Her tasks included:

  • Preparing stable suspensions as precursor materials for EPD.

  • Identifying and applying appropriate surface treatments for the substrate.

  • Studying the influence of EPD parameters on the properties of the resulting coatings.

She also performed extensive material characterizations using:

  • X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF)

  • X-Ray Diffraction (XRD)

  • X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS)

  • Raman Spectroscopy

  • Microscopy techniques

Throughout her stay, Salomé impressed us with her strong work ethic, scientific curiosity, and autonomy. She approached her work with enthusiasm and professionalism, making her a valued member of the team.

Reflecting on her experience, Salomé shared:

“During my internship at FunGlass, I felt very comfortable; all the people who accompanied me closely or from a distance welcomed me very well, and that greatly contributed to my pleasure of working at FunGlass. Thank you for your availability and patience. It was my first internship in a company and I was delighted. I was able to demonstrate a great deal of autonomy, which allowed me to put into practice the concepts I had learned in France.”

We thank Salomé for her excellent contribution and wish her continued success in her studies and future career.
