Evaluating FunGlass Antireflective Coatings for Solar Applications in Spain
Amol Logavi, our PhD student, recently visited the National Renewable Energy Centre (CENER) in Spain as part of the European RISEnergy project. During his research visit, he worked with Dr. Cristina Pinto and Dr. Iñaki Cornago to evaluate multifunctional antireflective coatings developed at FunGlass for photovoltaic applications.

The research proposal was approved under Transnational Access (TA) programme, which provides researchers with access to advanced facilities for renewable energy research. This programme enabled our researchers to access CENER’s facilities and expertise for this collaborative work.
The research focused on the optical properties and photovoltaic performance of coated glass intended for use as cover glass in solar modules. The team carried out optical characterisation and fabricated photovoltaic modules by laminating the coated glass with silicon solar cells. Electrical testing was then performed to assess how the coatings affect solar cell performance and efficiency.
This collaboration provides an opportunity to evaluate FunGlass-developed coatings under application-relevant conditions and investigate their potential to improve the performance of photovoltaic technologies. It also demonstrates the value of international research infrastructure programmes in supporting the development and testing of advanced materials for renewable energy applications.
