Avnee Chauhan’s Research Featured as Editor’s Choice
We are proud to announce that our recently graduated doctoral student, Dr. Avnee Chauhan, has published their latest research in the prestigious International Journal of Applied Ceramic Technology: “Highly Dense Translucent CeO₂‒δ·(RE, Y, Sm, La)₂O₃ (RE = Dy, Gd) High-Entropy Ceramics for Multi-Wavelength Emission.”
This study focuses on the development of high-entropy oxide (HEO) ceramics with exceptional optical and structural properties. The team successfully synthesized translucent CeO₂-based ceramics with a single-phase bixbyite structure through optimized reactive sintering at 1600°C.
Key highlights of the research include:
-
Achieving >99% relative density and translucency in the visible and near-infrared spectrum.
-
Investigating the effect of hot isostatic pressing (HIP) on transparency and phase stability.
-
Exploring luminescence properties, demonstrating multi-wavelength emissions (432, 572, and 653 nm) under UV excitation — producing near-cold white light.
-
Revealing efficient energy transfer between Ce³⁺, Sm³⁺, Dy³⁺, and Gd³⁺ ions, contributing to enhanced photoluminescence performance.
This breakthrough paves the way for advanced optical materials with potential applications in photonics, lighting, and energy technologies.
The research was carried out through close collaboration between FunGlass, the Fraunhofer Institute for Ceramic Technologies and Systems (IKTS), Hermsdorf, Germany, and the Department of Industrial Engineering, Università degli Studi di Padova, Italy.
