Public Habilitation Lecture and Thesis Defence of Dr. Surjyakanta Rana Held at FunGlass

On 30 June 2026, FunGlass hosted the public habilitation lecture and defence of the habilitation thesis of Dr. Surjyakanta Rana as part of his habilitation procedure in the field of Inorganic Technology and Materials.

Dr. Rana delivered his public habilitation lecture entitled Nanomaterials for Energy and Environmental Applications, demonstrating his pedagogical competence and expertise in advanced functional materials. The lecture was followed by the public defence of his habilitation thesis, Graphene-Based Metal Nanocomposites: Harnessing the Synergy of Graphene and Metal Nanoparticles in Coupling Reactions.

The Habilitation Committee was chaired by Prof. Dušan Galusek. Its members were Prof. Ján Híveš (Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology, Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, Slovakia) and Assoc. Prof. Ladislav Čelko (Brno University of Technology, Czech Republic). The thesis was reviewed by Prof. Pedro Felipe Núñez Coello (Universidad de La Laguna, Spain), Assoc. Prof. Jadra Mosa Ruiz (Institute of Ceramics and Glass – CSIC, Spain), and Assoc. Prof. Włodzimierz Miśta (Institute of Low Temperature and Structural Research, Polish Academy of Sciences, Poland).

Following the public lecture, the defence of the habilitation thesis, and the subsequent discussion, the Habilitation Committee held a closed session. Based on Dr. Rana’s lecture, scientific achievements, pedagogical experience, successful defence of the habilitation thesis, and the positive reviewers’ evaluations, the Committee unanimously recommended awarding him the scientific-pedagogical title of Associate Professor (Docent) in the field of Inorganic Technology and Materials.

The habilitation procedure will continue with the consideration of the Committee’s recommendation by the Scientific Board of Alexander Dubček University of Trenčín at its next meeting. The Scientific Board will decide whether to approve the proposal to award Dr. Surjyakanta Rana the scientific-pedagogical title of Associate Professor (Docent).
