Strengthening International Collaboration: FunGlass Researcher Visits Università degli Studi di Modena e Reggio Emilia

Our researcher Dr. Alfredo Sanchez from the VILA department recently completed a two-week Erasmus researcher visit to Università degli Studi di Modena e Reggio Emilia, Italy, where he had the privilege of working with Prof. Alfonso Pedone and Dr. Marco Bertani.

During this visit, hosted by the Department of Chemical and Geological Sciences, Alfredo had the opportunity to dive into cutting-edge simulations using Density Functional Theory (DFT) applied to rare-earth oxides, a field that lies at the intersection of technological relevance and frontier research, including topics such as High Entropy Oxides and complex oxide materials. The work he engaged in is not only fundamental for understanding material properties but is also increasingly important for applications in energy, electronics, and novel functional materials.

Alfredo collaborated with an exceptional research group. In just two short weeks, their discussions, joint work, and shared enthusiasm made this time incredibly fruitful and inspiring. We believe this experience marks the beginning of a productive collaboration between the FunGlass Centre and Università degli Studi di Modena e Reggio Emilia through Alfonso Pedone, an expert in atomic simulations (Molecular Dynamics, Density Functional Theory, and machine learning applied to materials).

We would like to thank our colleagues for the opportunity to share knowledge and expertise, and we look forward to further cooperation in the future.
